Red River Gorgeous Frequently Asked Questions

Is the cabin and treehouse availability up-to-date?
Yes, the software updates instantaneously.

Where are your cabins and treehouses located?
We have three locations:  Inside the Red River Gorge, near the Slade Exit off of the Mountain Parkway (the highway) & next to the Natural Bridge State Park.

1.)  Inside the Red River Gorge
We are lucky enough to be in a VERY PRIME LOCATION!  Our main office and many of our properties are located within the Gorge itself!  The office is 1/4 mile from the Martin’s Fork Trailhead (also the location of the Military Wall and Left Flank climbing areas), 1 mile from the Nada Tunnel and 1 mile from the Red River.  No need to drive to the trailheads…you can walk right from your cabin or treehouse!  The address for the main office is:  3546 Nada Tunnel Road, Stanton, KY 40380.
These properties include:  Backcountry Shelter, Boone’s Hideout, Bungalow, Firefly Suite, Glaucomy’s Suite, Huckleberry Farmhouse, Little Acorn, Little Miss Sunshine, Moonshadow, Moss Rock, Mountain Light, Observatory Treehouse, Raven’s Roost, Sheltowee Traveler, Sycamore, Sylvan Float Treehouse, Tall Timbers, Tradewinds Treehouse, White Pines and Wildflower.

2.)  Near the Slade Exit
If you are looking for an easy-to-access, centrally located spot, this is it!  Located just 1 mile from the Slade Exit #33 off of the Mountain Parkway Highway, we have several cabins nestled in on the hillside very close to the gas stations and all of the adventures of the gorge!
These properties include:  Blackbird, Forest Dream, Hygge and Norwegian Wood

3.)  Next to the Natural Bridge State Park
Our other location is just two miles up the road from the main entrance of the Natural Bridge State Park and also within walking distance of the Red River Rockhouse Restaurant.  The properties are up a gravel county road named “Cave Hollow,” located just north (on the left hand side) of the restaurant.  We really love the Rockhouse, as they are also a small, family-owned business here in the Gorge and feature local farmers and organic artisan products whenever possible!
These properties include:  Big Leaf, Cloud, Puma and Turtle Domes (which comprise Dome Town), Cliff Dweller, Froggy Bottom Tiny House, Grey Dreamer, Looking Glass Treehouse, Sandstone Drifter and Sky Dancer

Can I stay for just one night?
We have a two night minimum, but do allow single night reservations to fill in gaps between existing reservations.  Our reservation software should allow this to happen automatically online.  We also allow single night reservations for dates less than one week away, but depending on the circumstances, may need to charge an additional single night cleaning fee.  Please email us at [email protected] or call us at (606) 663-9824 with questions.

When are the check in and check out times?
We have a self-check in process.  You may arrive anytime after 4 pm and check-out by 11 am.

If you select an early check-in, you can arrive 1.5 hours early, at 2:30 pm.
If you select a late check-out, you can stay 1.5 hours longer, leaving by 12:30 pm.

Why do the nightly rates vary so much?
Our prices are determined much like airline ticket prices:  based on day of the week, season, and overall demand.
The most expensive nights will be holidays and weekends for the spring wildflowers and autumn for the spectacular leaves.
The least expensive nights will be Sunday through Thursdays in January and February.

Are pets allowed at the cabins?
Pets are welcome at most cabins.  Our pets enjoy the area as much as we do.  We do ask for an additional cleaning fee to help cover the additional cleaning work usually needed after a pet-visit, along with wear and tear on the cabin.  We ask that you please keep pet hair off of the bedding and furniture and check the grounds around your cabin or treehouse before you check out for any pet “messes.”  Please let us know that you are bringing your pet when making your reservation.

We also wish to inform you that we have several dogs at our main office property.

Please look for the “Pet Friendly” menu option under “Vacation Rentals” at the top of this page.

Do you provide sheets, blankets, linens or pillows?
Yes! We provide sheets, blankets, linens, and pillows for all of our structures.

We provide bath towels and washcloths for all of our structures that have a shower.

We do not provide additional/separate towels for the hut tubs. Please be sure to bring a separate towel for this if that is your preference.

Does my cabin have a shower?  What about the lou???
All of our cabins are one-of-a-kind, and the washroom amenities vary from cabin to cabin.  Be sure to check out the webpage for the cabin you are interested in for more details.  Guests staying at our off-grid cabins and treehouses are welcome to use our guest bathroom at our main office for a hot shower and flush toilet.

What do I need to bring for cooking?
Each of our kitchens have basic cooking cutlery and utensils.  We provide hand soap, dish soap, a dish sponge, 2 dish towels and at least 2 trash bags.  Please be sure to bring your own salt, pepper, spices, cooking oil, coffee filters and paper towels.

What activities are there to do nearby?
There’s something for everyone in the Red River Gorge, whether you’re looking to hit the trails, climb a rock, paddle down the river or simply hang out and enjoy some time at nature’s pace.  And what better way to end a full day of fun than grabbing some local grub!  Check out Miguel’s for pizza night or head over to the Rockhouse for burgers, burritos and brews.

For more information in planning your activities here in the Gorge, check out our Local Area Guide.

Where’s the nearest grocery?
There is a Kroger about 20 minutes drive away.
It is located at 179 West College Ave, Stanton, KY 40380.
Local gas stations also have an expanded grocery and camping selection.

Will my cell phone work at the cabin or treehouse?
The short answer is “maybe,” but don’t plan on it.  Along Nada Tunnel Road, AT & T does not get service and Verizon’s is spotty.  We have a landline telephone available for your use at our red office porch. The phone number is:  606-663-9824.  You may also give this number to family or friends who may need to contact you during your stay and we’ll be sure to relay the message to you.

Where can I access wifi?
We have wifi available at the main check in office.  The router is in the bright red building and does not require a password.  Most of our cabins and treehouses do NOT have wifi.  We advise that you plan accordingly so you can enjoy your stay with us unplugged and in tune with the natural beauty that surrounds us here in the Gorge.

If you would like to rent a structure, please consider our Huckleberry Farmhouse or our Little Miss Sunshine.

Do I have to purchase a pass for overnight parking?
Cabins and treehoues have their own free parking spaces.  We also provide free parking for our guests in our office parking lot. If you want to park at Martin’s Fork Trailhead overnight, you will need to purchase a pass (these can be obtained at visitor centers and local gas stations).

How do I pay for a cabin?
You may pay by credit card on our website or by calling us to pay with your credit card over the phone (606) 663-9824.  We require a 40% deposit at the time of booking, and the remaining 60% is due 30 days before your arrival.  If you book online, this second 60% payment will happen automatically.

Can I smoke in the cabin?
We have a strict no smoking policy inside of the cabins and in our community spaces, such as at the main office area.  If we find the interior of the cabin to be suspiciously tobacco-y, or any other type of smoky, you will be charged a $300 cleaning fee.

Can you send me the driving directions and door code to my cabin or treehouse?
Once your balance is paid in full, we will email you directions and the lock box code to your cabin or treehouse.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us!  We are happy to help and look forward to answering any other questions you may have.  Feel free to call us at (606) 663 – 9824 or email (preferred) [email protected].  We look forward to hearing from you!
